TTT Rewind: Trends We’d Want More/Less of

toptentuesday

For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, we decided to do an topic we’ve never got to do before.  This week we decided to think of book trends we’d like to see more or less of which totally coincides with Kelly’s recent ranting on a panel.

MORE

– Independent female MCs without love interests/ chooses neither love interest
– Underdogs
– Supportive friendships
– Diversity in Fantasy, especially as the MC
– More high fantasy with original creatures (too much fae, angels, vampires, werewolves.. etc)- Paranormal Ghost stories (ie. The Haunting of a Sunshine Girl)

LESS

– Dystopian
– Princesses (royalty, damsel in distress, destined to save the world, etc)
– “Strong” sassy highly skilled female assassin/warrior: Don’t get us wrong we love a good badass female as much as the next person, but it’s being over done. Why cant she be independent and strong willed and book smart?
– “Chosen Ones”/ “Special Snowflake”
– Insta loves and love triangles

What book trends would you like to see more or less of?

  1. I’d have to agree, I’m tired of “Chosen Ones”/ “Special Snowflake” types too, at least could they put a different spin too? And I’m growing tired too of unnecessary love triangles in stories.

  2. OMG YES WE NEED MORE PEOPLE WHO DON’T CHOOSE ANYONE! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good romance. But there are times when it’s not even necessary. Sometimes it feels like authors are just pairing people together to pair them together, and other times it just doesn’t make sense. We need to see that the main character, male or female, can make it on their own because there are so many people that do in real life. They make it JUST fine without that love interest. (Says the girl who married her high school boyfriend but whatever…)

    Love this list!
