My Review:

I would like to say: I received this ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review.

Air Awakens blew me away when I read it. The story was so beautiful and the characters were so alive! I rated Air Awakens as one of my top reads of 2015, so starting Fire Falling I have to admit I was a bit nervous. What would happen if Fire Falling didn’t live up to Air Awakens? What if I hated the sequel when I loved the first one so much??? I’m happy to report those fears were never needed. Fire Falling is one of those rare books when the 2nd is just as good or better than the first!

Here are a few main points that really stood out to me that I enjoyed:

  • A Map! When it comes to fantasy worlds, such as the world of Air Awakens, it is easy for the author to tell the readers that a city is nestled between a giant mountain range and a deep ocean, but it can be hard sometimes to picture and grasp what the author is trying to show us. Elise was awesome enough add a map to the front of the book!! Now the reader can refer to the map when places are mentioned and actually know what it means. Plus, maps are just awesome in books!
  • Character Development! In Air Awakens we get to meet a few characters and learn a little about them, but that is it. Is there anything wrong with that? No! Being the first book in a series that is not uncommon. However, it was nice to get a better picture of who some of the characters are and how they arrived at the point they are at. The connection the reader feels for the characters is strengthen with the information given and allows us to connect with them on a more emotional level. The reader can’t help but fall in love with the people in this series.
  • No Perfect Solution! Throughout Fire Falling several problems come up. It was nice to see the characters act like actual people and not have everything solved in a perfect way. There are mistakes made, feelings hurt, and actual consequences for the actions the characters take. It’s nice to see characters that are so…well human.
  • More Magic! Air Awakens introduces you to this world of elemental magic, but we only got a sneak peek of what is sure to be a complex magic system. Fire Falling gives the reader a better view and more action involving the different affinities! It was so much fun to see Vhalla learning how to become stronger with her abilities and learn more of what the others can do.
  • The Romance! YES THERE IS ROMANCE! Was it perfect? One that always has a happy ending? NO! This is one of those stories that will wrap you up in it’s magical moments and completely mix your feelings up like a milkshake. There is times you will read and have a goofy smile on your face, moments where there will be tears, and moments you want to punch someone! BUT IT’S GLORIOUS!!

Those are just a few of the points that makes Fire Falling such a fantastic read! This book was stunning and contained masterful writing. The story will grab you and not let go until the last word, and yet you will still be left wanting more. From cover to cover you will be on an epic and emotional ride you will never want to get off. Not only is this book fantastic on it’s own, it assists Air Awakens perfectly causing both books to shine brightly in the fantasy world of fiction! Air Awakens will sweep you up capturing you in the world and Fire Falling just adds fuel to the fire!

I give this book a 4.5 Hearts! It’s such an enjoyable read and the next book, Earth’s End, can not come soon enough!
