As she turns sixteen, Skybright notices troubling changes. By day, she is a companion and handmaid to the youngest daughter of a very wealthy family. Why We Are Waiting:
Lauren: When it comes to mythology, you can be sure I’m going to have an interest in the book. Greek mythology is my favorite, but I would love to get into other myths from other cultures, and what could be better than Chinese Myths? They have such a rich culture and history, I’m sure a story based on Chinese Mythology will be an interesting read.
Kelly: I’m really excited for this book because it’s something different than what I usually look for. I’ve been trying to somewhat branch out in my fantasy genre love and find other sub genres within it that I can explore. I’ve never read a Chinese mythology book, but I think I’d really like it, especially when it’s set as a high fantasy! I kind of have the same hesitation towards this book that I had with Daughter of Smoke and Bone; I was so hesitant because it was set in a part of our world that I rally didn’t know and in a different culture. Kara was so different than the heroines I knew and loved that I was worried I wouldn’t really feel attached to her or the series that much. I now LOVE DoSaB and recommend it to everyone, so I have a strong urge to try this book in the hopes that I will love it just as much.
Melissa: The cover has me intrigued! What is going on there?! I love learning about new mythologies and I know very little about Chinese Mythology which is ironic for me. I’m super excited for a diverse YA character and getting to know Cindy Pon as a writer and storyteller.
